Optimistic outlook on Taiwan Offshore Wind Sector as IOG Acquires New CTV

International Ocean Group (IOG) announced  the acquisition of a new crew transfer vessel (CTV) today to further enhance their market offering to Taiwan’s offshore wind industry. The CWind Pesanach has arrived in Port of Kaohsiung, and will join IOG’s fleet – the largest in Taiwan – after completing the reflagging procedure. So far, totally 11 offshore wind vessels are in the IOG fleet, including survey vessels, CTVs and Platform Supply Vessel. After reflagging, the vessel will be deployed on offshore wind farm projects off the coast of Changhua county for a project developer.

The booming growth of the offshore wind farm industry continues to drive a demand for CTVs in Taiwan. To keep pace with Taiwan’s rapidly developing offshore wind market CWind Taiwan continues to increase the number and capability of vessels to enhance the local vessel capacity and operating capability. The newly acquired CTV is built by the renowned Penguin Shipyard International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore-based Penguin International Limited. With four SCANIA DI16 engines, the 27-metre wind vessel has a propulsion system of four Hamilton HM521 waterjets which provide the maximum  speed of 29 knots, and a high performance level for offshore personnel transfers.

“IOG has been deeply involved in the development of offshore wind farm in Taiwan since the establishment. The acquisition of one of the largest and most comfortable CTV in Taiwan this time strengthens the whole marine engineering capabilities of Taiwan’s ship suppliers. We are committed to the cultivation of  offshore wind farm talents and knowhow transfer, and look forward to the upgrading of Taiwan’s overall maritime engineering industry.” said Ethan Wang, Chief Operating Officer of IOG.
